Three Sacred Words (Golden Arrow Book 2), by Christina Lee

From the author of Two of Hearts comes a standalone adult romance about finding love where you least expect it.

Meadow Starr has worked in housekeeping at the Golden Arrow Casino since she was legal. Raising her son, Joaquin, without the support of her parents or the child’s father was not something she had ever envisioned. Neither was pushing a broom, scraping money together to pay the bills, or living in a trailer park on the reservation. Little does she expect her worst nightmare and her best dream to show up in town at the exact same time.

Federal Marshal Alex Flores returns to the reservation where he helped solve a murder investigation last year. He’s never forgotten the mesmerizing woman with the luminous smile and world-weary eyes. Too bad the fugitive on this new case has led him straight to her doorstep. Meadow will never give up Joaquin’s father, not if her wary gaze or her tight set jaw is any indication.

Meadow’s draw to Alex is immediate, but no way she’s going to trade attraction for history, longing for heritage. When the stakes become higher and Alex steps in to protect Meadow and her child from the very man she was willing to defend, he can’t help falling for them both. Who knew something so wrong could feel so right? But as the lines continue to blur, something’s got to give, and Alex isn’t certain he can walk away so easily from love.

Such a gorgeous book.
By Laurie Oh
From her very first book, All of You I have been head over heels for Christina Lee. Her books have a certainly poetry to them, while at the same time capturing the warts and all lives of her characters. It has been impossible not to develop a deep attachment to them because they always felt real to me.

Three Sacred Words is a book for which I had mixed emotions – happy and excited because it is a new Christina Lee book, but sentimental because I know it is the last book in the Golden Arrow arc and therefore the possible end of her Between Breaths series, which have I simply adored. That doesn’t mean I didn’t love it any less, just that I savored this story that much more.

This book had a little of very everything and it all worked perfectly. This is love story with a dash of suspense and a scoop of steamy. It attached itself to my heart and didn’t let go. That’s the beauty of Christina’s writing – she makes you feel her characters deeply. Sigh.

Meadow Starr is the girl who was judged by her community for her choices and has worked incredibly hard to stand on her own two feet for not only her survival, but for that of her son. Meadow’s voice resonated for me because it projected, I think a very realistic view of a single mom, not just on the reservation, but I think in any small community. I loved that she was never filled with self-pity, as well as her POV was reflective and she was determined to move forward with her life. I loved her strength and spirit, but mostly I loved her instincts as mom – Joaquin was her priority and it informed her decisions. She was pretty incredible.

Alex Flores is the best kind of man. He had difficult job to do and he had to balance that with some pretty overwhelming feelings. I loved his struggle, but I also loved that he was honest. First and foremost, he was there to do his job and it was a thread that was woven in everything he did. Alex made me swoon – A LOT. It wasn’t just the things he said, but his deeds.

Meadow and Alex together were pure magic. Their attraction was magnetic and there is was no way not to be caught in its pull. Their road wasn’t destined to be smooth, these two are very, very aware of their obligations, which are like third and fifth wheels in heads. Jobs, community ties, family and exes are all things that can play very real parts in any relationship. It was captured perfectly.

This is really a fantastic book – just understand it doesn’t hit you over the head. It is a gorgeous love story that really will absolutely steal your heart.

Joaquin will steal your heart while the mystery and sexual tension will make it race!
By Liv
I loved it! Little Joaquin seriously stole my heart. I shouldn't have been surprised by that because Author Christina Lee’s characters always have a way of seeming very real and dear to me. I still felt bummed about Mr. Nakos, the previous owner of the Golden Arrow Casino for example. In this second standalone novel in the Golden Arrow series, Alex and Meadow's unexpected attraction certainly complicated things for both of them.

‘The lines were blurring a bit for me and I needed to watch myself.’ ~Alex

Neither of them were looking for love with stakes being so high for both of them for different reasons. As they interacted more and more, they learned that they had more in common than either could have imagined. I was thrilled with the mix of suspense and sexual tension between this unlikely pair.

Below is only one of my many favorite scenes:

“You feel better?” she mumbled.

“So much better,” I said in a groggy voice. “Especially with you in my arms.”

I could hear the smile in her voice. “Is that your fever talking again?”

“Maybe,” I said, my lips nuzzling her neck. “So it still doesn’t count.”

She moaned softly as I continued burrowing into her nape, laying kisses on her salty skin.

“If I could have one taste of you,” I said, licking beneath her hairline. “I know I’d want so much more.”

“You must still be delirious,” she said, sighing.

“Believe what you want,” I mumbled. “But to be inside of you, even once, and feel you fall apart in my arms? I’d want that.”

I pulled her against my body and before I fell asleep again, I heard her whisper, “I’d want that too.”

And Sparrow, Meadow's former lover and the father of her young child, really intrigued me. How and why did he become someone whose actions put his former family in danger?

Toss in the character updates involving siblings Kai and Dakota and their mates, the unexpectedly sweet moments like the one below that involved Meadow's young son, Joaquin, or strong moments like Meadow’s explanation to Joaquin about whether or not she liked Alex more than his father now, and you have the perfect formula for yet another wonderful installment in the Golden Arrow universe.

“Group hug,” Joaquin said, shoving his little body between us, and grabbing hold of both of our legs.

I so wanted to be part of their group hug and their well deserved new life together as a happy trio.

Meadow is doing everything she can to be the best mom that she can to her son
By Amy Bosica
Three Sacred Words follows the story of Alex and Meadow. Meadow is doing everything she can to be the best mom that she can to her son, Joaquin. Even though she works hard and does it all on her own with no real help from Joaquin’s father, they’re still managing to just scrape by. The last thing Meadow planned on was Alex….Alex is supposed to be in town on official business, but that doesn’t stop him from wondering whatever happened to Meadow. He knew that he would eventually run into her again, but wasn’t prepared at all for his reaction when he finally saw her. Alex is drawn to Meadow, but the two of them perusing anything would only be complicated, especially when Meadow ends up caught in Alex’s investigation. However, as fate would have it, the more time these two spend together, the more they realize their attraction can’t be denied. They want to give in to what they are feeling, but the stakes may prove too high to take this chance. Will Meadow and Alex get the HEA they deserve? There’s only one way to find out…..

Three Sacred Words was a quick and easy read for me. I thought the story was really well written. I loved being back in this world that Christina Lee has created. I found the story-line intriguing and thrilling at the same time. This story had me asking questions and I was dying to know what exactly was going on with Meadow and her ex.

Three Sacred Words pulls you from the very beginning and makes you want to know more. I loved the characters; both new and old. It was fun seeing old characters again; even for just a brief minute. I loved Alex and Meadow together. I thought the two of them had amazing chemistry. I loved watching them try to navigate their way into this relationship. I loved the way that Alex was with Joaquin. He was really good to him despite who Joaquin’s father was. I loved how fiercely independent Meadow was. I appreciated all that she did and sacrificed as a single mother. And I just loved how Alex wasn’t afraid to go after what he wanted with Meadow.

Overall, I thought this was a great read. I really loved the idea of the story and how these two characters were able to find love, when they were least expecting it. Three Sacred Words had the perfect balance of angst, romance, drama and suspense. I really enjoyed all the action and suspense towards the end as well. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
