A very sad life story.

A very tragic life story of such a talented and graceful personality. Everybody, who came in contact with this successful actress, be it her father, her husband, her relatives and/or other people , took full advantage of her innocence and her being naive. I personally feel that her husband Kamal Amrohi was entirely responsible for her tragic end. I find it strange that the author who appears to be smitten by the charm of the actress, appears to totally absolve Kamal Amrohi of his responsibility to protect and take care of his wife while enjoying all the perks of celebrity status, money and authority. Perhaps the author should have probed a little more into the life of this talented person and tried to establish who were the people responsible for her addiction to liquor which eventually took her life. Hers was a good life which was allowed to be lost.

Too bad that not much is written about such a fabulous actress & a fascinating person. The book is good but not comprehensive.I would have liked to have known more about her. may be ,more interviews with people that knew her , had worked with her. I liked reading about her.

Well researched book

Vinod Mehta really seems to have worked hard on this one. There is a lot of detail and yet the big picture of Meena Kumar's life comes out clearly. I did not know that Meena Kumari was related to Rabindranath Tagore!
The author came across hundreds of nuggets of - how shall I put it - spicy information during his research. I wish he was bolder and written about some them.
In terms of writing style, Mr. Mehta's shines in his book on Sanjay Gandhi. He is now, clearly, the best writer in the country.
