About the Author

Christine Warren is the bestselling author of The Others series, including Wolf at the Door, Big Bad Wolf, Born to Be Wild, Prince Charming Doesn't Live Here, and Black Magic Woman. Born and raised in coastal New England, she now lives as a transplant in the Pacific Northwest. (She completely bypassed those states in the middle due to her phobia of being landlocked.) Somewhat Disappointing

I've been a fan of Christine Warren's series of "The Others" from the beginning - but this latest novel fails to deliver... Overall the book is short with a lack of storyline. The characters are not very engaging and the intimate moments are definitely lacking (compared to other steamy scenes in her previous stories). There is absolutely no build-up of the relationship between the two main characters, which gives no anticiapation/excitement and no feeling of chemistry between the two. The main female character comes off very "bitchy" and not very likable. Also quite a few spelling errs?? which totally threw me off... I'm still hopeful that her next novel will be a triumphant come-back (ala ~ Missy & Graham in Big Bad Wolf)

If you are not what I expected, can you still be everything I need?

When your Queen gives you an assignment, regardless of your thoughts on the matter you go. For Luc Macanaw that meant crossing utilizing a portal to go from the land of the Fae to the human world and retrieve the Queen's nephew who decided to party on the other side.

Luc is a leader who always takes his assignment seriously letting nothing deter him from his objective. So meeting Corinne D'Alessandro and being thrown off his game is a shocker he never saw coming. Luc should not be attracted to Corinne for pity sake she is human. The other problem is she is chasing down the same object from a different perspective though as the reporter assigned to figure out what is going on. Corinne already knows about the non-humans on earth staying under the radar and swore to stay away from a relationship with any of them. She never expected any spark with a non-human but Luc is definitely pushing every go after him button she has with some red flags but mostly passion on all fronts. Could they have something together or is this an attraction Luc has conquered up from his bag magic?

The task is difficult for the two of them even working together as the witnesses start showing up murdered or missing. It is difficult to trace a lead under the best of circumstances but not even having a verification of the facts makes it almost impossible. The Others existence must be kept a secret so the pursuit becomes even more critical when more people start to notice the unusual activity but Luc knows Corinne has the same agenda and trust is not an issue.

This book is so much more than demons with secrets it is a romantic interlude that will enchant as well as romance you. With a well-defined and detailed storyline, this book makes for a great read, as you are able to feel the passion and the danger all at the same time.

This book came up in my Amazon recommendations list. I snatched it up because it looked good, only to read it and find that it was the best Fae book I had ever read.
Christine Warren is an amazing story teller. Her characters are witty, strong, independent, and identifiable and her story is well crafted and fluid.
I found out after starting this book that it is actually the 12th of the Others series, but I wasn't lost at all (though I did read somewhere that this was actually a rewrite of a story done with Ellora's Cave and therefore was more standalone than the other of the series).
Corinne is a reporter with multiple friends who have become involved with or married members of the supernatural community. She has basically sworn that while she loves them, she will never be one to date outside of her species.
Luc is the captain of the guard for Queen Mab of the Summer Court. He is sent to the human realm to find and bring home the queen's nephew, Seoc, before he can cause too much trouble and spill the secret of the Others.
The minute Luc sees Corinne he feels something he has never felt before, and 1 touch is all it takes for him to know that it's more than just idle attraction. Once some things are brought to light, Luc can no longer deny that Corinne is his heartmate and he knows that he'll do anything to keep her by his side.
Corinne plays coy and puts on a good poker face, but she can't deny the feelings that Luc imparts. After teaming up to find Seoc together, thus getting her story for her boss, keeping her friends safe and helping Luc with his mission, one things leads to another and she is helpless to do anything but feel.

The voyage of the Eternal Champion upon the seas of mythos

Every page of this graphic novel could stand on it's own as a worthy work of art. The colours are especially magnificent. In the forward, Michael Moorcock expresses his surprise and delight that First Comics could adapt his work so faithfully to graphic form. Indeed, this volume is one of the best monuments to that now defunct Chicago publishing house.
Sailor on the Seas of Fate is actually the first tale of three in this volume. It takes place before the traditional start of the Elric mythos- before the destruction of the dreaming isle, Imrryr, and of his bride, Cymoril. In this story Elric flees pursuers from the Young Kingdoms only to find himself on the shores of the sea with no escape before or behind. He resolves that it is better to simply walk on into the waves than to give his enemies the satisfaction of his slaughter. Only the voice and the pull of the black rune blade, Stormbringer, at his hip draws him back to shore. Eric then resolves to simply sleep and await his inevitable fate- too weary to longer care. It is then that he is awakened by the looming shadow of a great ship. He hails the vessel only to find that it has been searching for him. He finds other passengers that seem oddly familiar. They seem to come from many places and many times. Some, like Erekose, Prince Corum, and Hawkmoon, seem to actually be a part of him in some strange way- like they share a common soul. The blind captain tells the passengers that they sail for mythical Tanelorn, the archetypical soul of all cities. Here the four shall be forged into one to save the universe itself from being consumed by a threat from Beyond.
The second tale takes place on the voyage back to Elric's home plane. He lands upon a strange shore where he falls in among pirates- and one future friend, Count Smiorgan Baldhead, sea lord of the Purple Towns. Elric and his new companion then encounter the legendary Melnibonian sorcerer, Saxif D'aan. D'aan is famed in the old tales as one of the few of his race to know the emotion of remorse- and how it drove him mad. It seems that Elric has been drawn to this place and time to help resolve and avenge the monstrous crime that drove the sorcerer to madness.
Finally, an adventurer that seeks a city even older than dreaming Imrryr rescues Elric and Count Smiorgan from the seas. They travel along of this quest only to find the secret of his own race's origin- and to the origin of the contest between Chaos and Order on this plane....
If you can still find a copy of this book then grab it. It is truly something special in the world of graphic novels.

I've rented multiple books from Amazon and have never had a book come apart like this.

The cover a couple of pages in the front and back fell off. As much as I tried to keep the front connected to the book, it kept falling off and I misplaced the first few pages, which is obvious upon receipt of the book. Book is ok. Was listed as acceptable condition, but when it arrived half of the spine was missing and a few pages were not binded. As I use the book it is continuing, a slight annoyance.

Their blog is great. This book, not so much.

Firstly, let me start by saying that I only subscribe to four blogs, and the blog by these authors (The Minimalists) is one of them. At a time when so many people are being hit with so many things that look like they need to be done, the authors are really good at using minimalist principles to focus on what is important.

That's what they do in their blog. That's not what I found in this book. Apart from the occasional sentence mentioning that minimalism helps you focus on the important things, the rest of the book contains:

- Details on the authors' story of how they became minimalist and left their jobs. Only a small amount of added information compared to their blog, but I did enjoy that part.
- A chapter on the importance of eating unprocessed foods and doing exercise. No information that was new to me.
- A chapter on the importance of prioritizing the more important relationships in your life and working to eliminate relationships with negative impact. No real concrete directions other than to create a list of all the people in your life and catalog how close they are to you and whether their impact on your life is positive, negative, or neutral, then prioritize your use of time accordingly. Several pages about things like love and trust being important in relationships.
- A chapter on the importance of finding your passion, having a mission in life rather than just doing a job. One really good paragraph about the idea that if you don't know what your passions are then you still have anchors, things that are dragging you down (like stress from debt for example).
- Chapters on the importance of growing as a person and contributing, but again no real advice other than to get doing that stuff.

The problem I have with all this is that I already know these things, and I would imagine most people do. The biggest gain I have had from reading the authors' blog is how to attack the clutter that gets in the way of me executing on these, and unfortunately this is not what this book was about. The authors do make attempts to talk about how to get the emotional energy to achieve the important things, for example they talk a little bit in this book about how you need to go from an attitude of "should" to an attitude of "must", but that totally leaves unaddressed the fact that the stuff that's cluttering up our time and resources somehow got itself into the "must" category when it shouldn't have, and now what? How to actually wade through it to reverse this take-over? (Again, please note that I think their blog does speak to that).

If you have the same problem as me, namely clutter (whether it be stuff, commitments, whatever), and want ways to help untangle yourself from it to actually make space for the "real stuff" you want to do, and already know that real stuff to be important, then I wouldn't read this book. Instead I have found the following very helpful.

- The blog by these authors.
- Leo Babauta's "The Power of Less", especially the sections where he goes through his ideas on forcing prioritizing to happen by limiting time spent on an activity, and how to start small on a change of habit.

Caused some family bonding

I've been a reader of the minimalists.com for a while now and I've drank the koolaid. After just about a week of combing through blog entries and many long walks- I decided to go for it. I mean what did I have to loose... except everything. So I donated and re-gifted about 80% of my material things. It felt amazing and today I'm still on a quest to live with less and live more simply.
What I haven't mentioned is that I was living at home at the time I decided to radically change my way of consumption (I was an RN right out of college, preparing to move out). At first, my parents didn't get it. I think they even laughed one time and called it 'spring cleaning'. But as I got rid of more and more they became concerned. They didn't get it. And it was hard for me to explain to them why exactly I was doing it. Why it felt so freeing.
Things became more troublesome when I did move out. Here was this nice open apartment, 'a space that would look great decorated' per my mother. If you don't see the problem yet, I'll spell it out. I didn't want more stuff. Let alone her decorating expertise (Ahh! I hope you never read this mom).
Life went on as always, and while we were still the same family, it was hard to talk to them about the important things because we no longer saw eye-to-eye.
That's where this book came in.
We have a family get together at least once a year and this year we decided that New Hampshire was the place to be. It was a long drive, and so after we lost all of the recognizable home radio stations, the car went silent. Mom was bored and dad was driving, so I took out this book and began reading it out loud. Most of the stuff, as many have mentioned below, is old news to those who read the blog religiously. My parents on the other hand, two people completely new to this 'strange minimalism thing', had such strong reactions. I found so much joy in being able to read something to them that explained why I was doing what I was doing. It started conversations, and on the trip home my parents actually encouraged me to finish the book aloud for them.
I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who is looking to made a radical change in their life for the better.
It's not for everyone, but I love it and now so does my family.

Don't Settle!

You don't have to settle for a mediocre life. At one time Ryan and Josh were facing the daily grind, moving their way up the corporate ladder and working for the weekend. But when the slow burn of discontent became too intense to ignore they took action. They knew that they should change their lives but unlike most people they actually made it a priority.

Enter Minimalism. It's right there in the title. But don't pick up this book expecting a step by step guide on how to become a minimalist (their website can help with that: themins.com). Instead this book is about living a meaningful life. More specifically how to build a meaningful life through your health, relationships, passions, growth and contribution.

One of my favorite elements of Josh and Ryan's writing is how genuine they are. In this book they really allowed themselves to dig deeper. They teach what has made them happy. They teach how they were able to rid themselves of discontent and live a more meaningful life.

I can't thank Ryan and Josh enough for their writing over the past couple of months. When I first started my minimalist journey they were the torches that guided me out of the darkness of materialism. This book shows the growth of their writing and how they plan to continue their journey towards living a more meaningful life. And they aren't going at it alone.
